Pool Glass Filter Media
Glass Filter Media 1-3mm is a high-performance filtration material manufactured from recycled glass, engineered as a direct replacement for conventional silica sand in granular media filters. Through controlled crushing, shaping, and thermal treatment, the media achieves a uniform, angular-to-sub-angular particle structure with a smooth, chemically inert surface, creating a stable filter bed with consistent porosity for effective depth filtration without the channeling and clumping issues common to sand. Available in coarse, fine, and blended grades, it captures particles through combined physical straining and surface adhesion, while its smooth, closed surface resists biofilm formation and the associated media agglomeration and preferential flow paths. The material is chemically inert, free from crystalline silica and heavy metal contaminants, and does not degrade under normal filtration and backwash conditions.
Advantage:
- Superior Filtration Efficiency, captures up to 95% of particles down to 1 μm.
- Smooth, non-porous surface inhibits biofilm and prevents sand binding and channeling.
- Uses up to 50% less backwash water than sand, cutting water and pumping costs
- Lasts 10–15 years versus the 2–3-year sand replacement cycle
- About 15% lighter than sand; replacement needs only ~85% of sand weight
- Made from 100% recycled glass, diverting waste from landfill
Application:
- Residential & commercial swimming pools, spas
- Aquaculture, fish farming & pond water purification
- Municipal drinking water pre-filtration, surface water & groundwater treatment
- Wastewater tertiary filtration, industrial process water treatment
- Desalination pre-treatment, RO pre-filter protection
- Gravity filters and pressure sand filter systems
